13 Student Classroom - 1 Teacher

By the end of their time as Wallabies, students will have had many learning experiences to practice their language and fine motor skills. When they are developmentally ready, they will be introduced to the Jolly Phonics program. They will also have the opportunity to participate in the Magic 100 Words program which are 1/2 of all words used in reading. Wallaby students will also have had experiences with adding, subtracting and classifying. The focus is on Language; Literacy; Mathematics; Science; Geography and the Community.

Educational Programs Included

Jolly Phonics

There are 40+ sounds in the English language. Jolly Phonics teaches the letters that relate to these sounds. By concentrating on teaching the letter sounds before asking children to try to read books for themselves, most children can learn the sounds in a few months.

For each letter sound there is a suggested storyline, an action, a song and a worksheet. Jolly Phonics is an interactive reading program that works best when parents participate at home.

Magic 100 Words

The Magic 100 Words program make up one half of all reading words. This is a program that teaches children to recognise sight words, most of which are hard to sound out or have duel sounds or meanings (eg: hear and here; red and read). There are certificates for the completion of each set of words. The sets get more difficult as the child progresses through the program.

Again, this is a program that is most successful with parent participation.
